After school classes for (Tamil, Sinhalese & Muslim) to develop their educational capacities. There are 95 children attending these after-school classes from grade 3 up to grade 5, learning English, Tamil, Mathematics and other common subjects

Sanitation and Livelihood

Villages close to the conflict zone have been experiencing an influx of IDPs. Food infant milk, sanitation and means of making a living are needed urgently. The area includes 16 villages, some of which, including current resettlement comprises a total of 7204 families. 3 of these villages need 241 toilets and food production includes - vegetables, dairy production and livestock.

Community cohesion.

The project aims to strengthen community cohesion with a view of reducing the tension among the local communities, due the resumption of the armed conflict. 100 community leaders (Tamil, Sinhalese & Muslim) and 90 religious clerics from three divisional secretaries in the Ampara district will be involved in workshops and dialogues on non-violent conflict transformation and their role in promoting inter ethnic/religious harmony within the community to re-build their societies based on equality and co-existence.

Youth empowerment

Develop their communication and leadership skills and their knowledge in conflict transformation in order to effectively mobilize the youth to promote social harmony within their localities.

Working with children

6 children's clubs run by CPBR Thirukkovil office. They have monthly and weekly meetings to organize sports events/ cultural events/ competitions etc. They also conduct weekly Sinhalese classes for these children.
The Periyanilavanai - Educational Centre

The education provided by state schools in Eastern province is below the national average. This puts the local students, predominantly from Tamil and Muslim origin, at a disadvantage. The aim of this project is to build an educational centre to offer the local community supplementary teaching. The local community contribution will include a plot of land for the educational centre along with free maintenance and security.
Thirukkovil Cassuarina tree planting project

A self-sufficient environmental project to plant and maintain Casuarina trees in Thirukovil, with the ultimate goal of creating a natural 'wind and tsunami barrier', promoting resettlement of a fishermen's' village.
